Guess who bought a new battery charger for his digital camera?! Here's something I did towards the end of this last week. It's that brain bot from the last post... in watercolor.

Hunter and Painter is an awesome comic.
Kean Soo and Hope Larson have launched their Secret Friend Society site. Cool stuff.
Claire Wendling is so good she makes me sick. Literally.
A very interesting "Keep TV Free" animated Public Service Announcement from 1967.
The trailer for The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T (Dr. Seuss) is online thanks to archive.org.

I had intended that this drawing be my submission for Illustration Friday this week. Unfortunately, when it was all said and done, I didn't think that it really fit with this week's topic of "sorrow". It was supposed to show the sorrow that a kid is having after the robot, which he created to do his homework for him, revolts, leaving a path of destruction in its wake. I didn't add all the elements that I had originally planned (a few homework papers on the ground, a torn book or two, a mangled backpack, etc.), which really would have helped to bring the concept together, but Survivor was on TV tonight. So there!
I haven't posted links in a while, so I thought I'd take a moment and post some local goodies that I've discovered lately.

This is a record people. I have my submission for Illustration Friday finished! On a Tuesday! Either I'm becoming less of a slacker or the apocalypse is near... take your pick.
**UPDATE**
Funny thing inspiration. After talking to a co-worker this morning about the Flight illustration, I had to post the story of how it came about. Here lately I've been listening to a lot of Death Cab For Cutie's most recent album, Transatlanticism. The title track from that album has been on constant rotation in the background of my mind for the last several days. I'll catch myself humming it while I do the most mundane of tasks. This morning on my way to work, I was listening to it when it struck me that this song was the inspiration behind the Flight illustration, though I didn't realize it at the time. While listening to that track and starring at the picture at the same time, the two go together quite nicely. Strange how stuff like that works out. If you've never heard Transatlanticism, listen here.
**Update- I've taken the song down for now**

Well, here it is folks. This is my entry for this weeks Illustration Friday topic: "Year of the Rooster". Though it's hard to make out what they are, those discolored patches on his head and neck are supposed to be spots... just humor me. ;)

Things are pretty crazy at work and they won't be slowing down until the end of the month, at the earliest. Because of that, my posts on this blog will be less frequent for the next several weeks (though it's hard to imagine them less frequent than they already are). I plan on working on submissions for Illustration Friday every week, so hopefully as I get them completed I'll post them here. I also have big plans for this blog in the near future, among them I'll talk a bit about myself so as to make you all a bit more familiar with this "Jared" guy, posting my experiments in the new (well, new to me) medium of comics, more illustrations and sketch book dumps, as well as an interview with none other than the super talented Ward Jenkins. Stayed tuned...
