Here is the introduction that I promised in an earlier post. Hopefully it will make me less of a faceless stranger on the internet... Name: Jared Chapman (see above for a somewhat loose portrait of me) Age: 24 Location: Austin, TX Job: Animator at Ignite! Learning Where am I from? As it says above, I'm currently living with my wife in Austin, TX, though it's not where I'm originally from. I grew up in a small town in Northeast Texas called Mount Pleasant. It's a nice place... very family oriented and quiet. Plus it has a Wal-Mart Supercenter, so everyone sleeps well at night. Where did I go to school? For my freshman year of college I attended Texas A&M University, home of the Fight'n Texas Aggies. It was a nice place, but not for me. I've never been more frustrated in my life than the year I spent there. Though they have traditional art classes and a well known 3D program (the Viz Lab), A&M DOES NOT have a art school. It's true. They wrote it in the bi-laws of the university way back when it was being founded in 1876. During my second semester at A&M, I applied and got accepted to the Savannah College of Art & Design. It was one of the best moves I have ever made. What did I study at SCAD? Originally I was a 3D animation major, then I had my first traditional animation class. I was hooked. I switched my major to traditional (2D) animation that quarter. Eventually, two years later in 2003, I walked across the stage at graduation, BFA in hand... well, decoy BFA in hand. The real one was mailed to me. What happened a week later? A week later, I was back in Mount Pleasant, attending a wedding; my wedding. My wife and I were married in early June of 2003. It was a perfect day made even more beautiful by the accompaniment of our family and friends. If I ever find the time, I'll post some pictures from the wedding here... it was indescribable. Amanda looked like a dream. So what am I up to these days? These days I stay busy with work, and hanging out with my wife. Art wise, I'm taking the first steps towards getting an illustration portfolio together, continuing with this blog, and other "this-n-that" type of projects. I am also debating between purchasing a new PC or making the jump to a MAC.
